Nail-on taps have holes which allow you to attach taps to shoes with nails (see lasts below) or screws. The nail access holes have been carefully designed and located so as to resist the backing out of the nail.

If a nail is properly installed (on an angle) and should start to back out, the position of the access hole, in conjunction with the action of the hinge, allows the floor-half of the tap to drive the nail back in while dancing. This, of course, reduces the chances of a nail scratching the floor, without sacrificing any of the long life or superb sound of the tap.

Of course, vigorous dancing or dancing on rough surfaces can cause a nail to back out. It is important to check (See Tap/Shoe Check page) your taps weekly and drive back in any loose nails. Loose nails can make dancing unsafe, lead to taps coming off, or damage floor surfaces. Be sure to keep all nails properly maintained.

Each set of taps you order will come as a complete set (with 2 toes and 2 heels per set). Your set will, also, include nails. You, or your shoe repair shop, can nail the taps on using an iron shoe last - see below.
If you wish to attach taps with screws, a packet of screws can be purchased at slightly extra cost - see below.
